The chimp test measures spatial working memory under a masking constraint, and it is famous for a humbling reason: in Tetsuro Matsuzawa's Kyoto experiments, the chimpanzee Ayumu recalled the positions of nine numerals after seeing them for a fraction of a second, outperforming university students.
