What this measures

This test measures colour discrimination — the smallest hue and lightness difference you can reliably detect, expressed as the level where you stop finding the odd tile within the time limit. Human colour vision compares signals from three cone types, and discrimination ability varies widely between individuals, degrades with screen quality and ambient light, and declines gradually with age. The test is deliberately fast-paced: at threshold, hesitation is itself a signal that you have reached your perceptual limit.
